  • Vertical Orientation: Building on the design language introduced with the Viola Desmond $10 bill, the vertical format offers a modern look and better functional handling.
  • Portrait of King Charles III: The front of the note displays an updated portrait of the King framed by Canada’s 13 provincial and territorial floral emblems.
  • Indigenous Symbolism: A clear circular window features plants of cultural significance to Indigenous Peoples, including sweetgrass and cedar.
  • Vimy Ridge Memorial: The reverse side continues to showcase the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, honoring Canadian military service and history.
  • Advanced Security Elements: The note includes a dynamic purple security stripe with pulsing visual effects to hinder counterfeiting efforts.

Expected Circulation Timeline

The new polymer note is scheduled to enter general circulation across Canada over the coming years. It replaces the previous $20 bill featuring Queen Elizabeth II, which had been in use since 2012.
